Very simple to use and very powerful spreadsheet for steel design. User input was limited to minimum and as much as possible is automated. The output is very eye pleasing, quick to understand and follow. This spreadsheet significantly reduces time required for laborious calculations of steel columns (even if 'Blue Book' is to be used, since changes do not require referring to tables). This spreadsheet can also be used for slender sections (which is a big advantage). The design procedure is as for 'simple structures' where nominal column moments are calculated based on eccentricity of reactions from supported beams. Together with the Steel Beam Design Spreadsheet it is a package that many steel designers will find essential.
This spreadsheet was specially developed for Windows and Mac users.
- A clear and easy to read output (all on a single page);
- Change steel grade: S275; S355; S460; - Supported steel sections: UC, UB; - All cross-section classes are supported: plastic, compact, semi-compact, slender; - Class 4 Slender sections are calculated based on reduced design strength pyr; - Calculations are based on 'simple structures' design procedures described in section 4.7.7. of BS; - Automatically calculates nominal effective length factors based on specified end restraint types; - Gives option to change beam reaction eccentricity value (in 'simple construction' typically 100mm); - Gives option to allow moments to be divided between adjacent (top and bottom) columns; - Includes individual checks for compression resistance and buckling resistance; - Gives option to change design between under factored or unfactored values; - Quick summary of utilization factors; - 'Live' Loading diagram; - Changeable safety factors; - Two versions are available: one for Microsoft Windows users and one for Apple Mac users; - Design is based on British Standard (BS 5950:1 2000). (Note: macros must be enabled for proper working of the spreadsheet. Follow instructions in this video)

To run the Single-User Licensed version you require:
- Microsoft Windows Excel version 2007 and above; (Note: the Single-User spreadsheet will not run on Mac due to unsupported activation procedure) To run the Company Licensed version you require either: - Microsoft Windows Excel version 2007 and above; - Microsoft Mac Excel version 2004, 2011 and above. If unsure then see whether the FREE version works. Technical Advice: If you have enabled macros and still cannot use the drop-down menu to change steel column size then it is probably because of a faulty Windows Update. Solution HERE. |
